Suzi Hyte Fundraiser

For those of you living in Las Vegas, I want to encourage you to do a little early Christmas shopping tomorrow. I grew up here in Las Vegas. When we moved back, we moved back into my parents home as they were in Africa serving a 2 year mission. That meant moving back to our home ward. The bishop of that ward is a man I have known my whole life. He and his lovely wife had 4 girls then 2 sons and at last a little girl again. I grew up with these kids and was friends with their 4th daughter all my growing up years.

Their youngest daughter is Suzanne, or Suzi. She is an amazing young woman. Shortly after we moved back to Vegas, Suzi was diagnosed with cancer. She had just started her first year of law school. She had to postpone her studies to undergo chemo for 6 months. The chemo worked though and she was able to start law school again the next fall. As the first semester ended, she found out the cancer had returned. This time the treatments were far more aggressive. She spent months in Salt Lake City getting treatments there.

She has completed her treatments now and is cancer free right now but her lungs have been severely damaged and her medical bills are ... well I am sure we can all imagine. Through all this she is still pursuing her law degree. I have done law school. I know how hard it is. Doing it with cancer... I am telling you, she is amazing. Even more inspiring is how optimistic and humble Suzi has been throughout this trial. Her attitude is one I try to emulate. She is one of my heroes.

So some of the good people in my home ward have organized an event as a fund raiser to help with her medical bills. I hope those of you local to the area will support it however you can.

I will be there shopping myself and if you see me there please come say hello even if I don't know you. I love meeting those of you who have silently supported me through this blog. Hope to see you there!

Will be there and hope to see you Stephanie. I want to thank you for a post a while ago about the DVD Hands of Heaven. I am the Enrichment leader in my ward and last night for our enrichment night we watch this amazing DVD. Along with some very strong personal stories it was one of the greatest enrichments yet. Thanks

What a neat thing to do! I truly hope that they are able to raise lots of money to help her.

I have been reading your blog for a while now and have learned so much from your strong testimonies, Thank You for being willing to share them!

I know that you have influenced many people and I was wondering if you would be willing to go to my blog page, www.placeforinspiration.blogspot.com and read the post I have on there about same sex marriages being passed, there is a video clip to go along with it. The video clip is truly unbelieveable what will happen if this passes. I thought that maybe if you commented about it on your blog that it would help get the word out and hopefully more people will go out and vote!! We HAVE to protect our children and families.

I wanted to comment on the video on Brittany's blog that she has asked you to also put on yours. Regardless of beliefs, please don't become political on your blog. I am so interested in what you have to say because I think people can learn great lessons from you. But those people may have very different views on same sex marriage. That is not what your blog is about. I really hope it doesn't turn into that.

I have wanted to comment on your blog for almost a month now but for some reason I haven't been able to find the words. I was shown your blog when my son Porter had a near drowning experience. It was awful and so traumatic but thankfully he pulled through and is still with us. I have so many emotions and feelings that are at times hard to understand. Reading your blog has given me so much insight and strength and I appreciate you more then you will ever know. I have been asked to speak to our Young Women in the ward about recognizing the Holy Ghost. This isn't my calling but they have asked me to share my experience with them. I know that you mentioned you teach the Young Women and also because of your great way with words, I was wondering if you could give me some direction? I don't know what to say or how to formulate how this feels into words that the girls could relate to. I have only been in relief society and primary presidencies, never worked with the young women. I feel a little scared and overwhelmed because I want so much to help them understand plus the emotions are still on the surface.

Stephanie--
I saw your blog through my cousin, Camille's blog. I just want to say how much your story has touched me, and I am amazed at your strength and faith.
I will definitely be coming back to visit often.
Thank you.
