Quotes

Tomorrow for our young women's activity we are focusing on having healthy minds and bodies. We are sharing our favorite healthy snacks and our favorite quotes. 

Soooo ... I thought I would turn to my amazing readers to share with me their favorite quotes. I will then share these with the young women. There is no specific theme. We will be picking out quotes to put on tiles. Each young woman will make one for herself and a friend. 

I will start off with a couple of mine that I have not previously shared.

I am in the midst of a very difficult challenge right now (respiratory therapy school at 50 years old), and I read a quote the other day that I really liked. It was said by Wilma Rudolf, a woman who contracted Polio as a young person and was told by docotors she would never walk again. Her mother told her different. Wilma went on to be an Olympic runner and was the first woman to win three olympic medals in the same Olympics. When interviewed she said, "Believe me, the reward is not so great without the struggle".

I have read your blog quite a few times and been impressed with your outlook and wisdom, but haven't ever commented.
I'm commenting now to thank you for the quote you shared about friendship. I have a close friend with whom my friendship has been changing and it has been hard for me, but I think this is how I will choose to look at things from now on.

Victor Frankl, who wrote "Man's Search for Meaning" a book about his time in a concentration camp in Nazi Germany, wrote about how there were people in the camps who were constantly comforting and serving others, despite their own suffering. He writes, these people offered sufficient proof that, "everything can be taken from a man but one thing-the last of all human freedoms-to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances".

I love that one.

When I was in the singles ward at the U of U, someone used this in a Relief Society lesson.

"God gave us memories that we might have roses in December." J.M. Barrie

I wrote it down inside the cover of my scriptures and I think about it often. It was the theme that I used as I raised my children.

I tried to make sure that my daughters had lots of good memories growing up. So when the Decembers of their lives hit, and I don't just mean old age. I was thinking more of the hardships and tragedies that come along the way. They would have wonderful memories to fall back on and buoy them up.

I just found out that my mother is dying from cancer, she has from 4 to 6 months left. I'm grateful to her for all the wonderful "roses" she has given to me all these many years. Some roses last for an eternity.
