Friday night Jonathan and I piled the kids into the car and headed off to do some research for Jon's work. He needed to go check out BJ's Restaurant. It is a tough job but somebody's got to do it. On our way there we saw a sign directing traffic for the U2 Concert that was going on that night.
Our good friends had tickets and were going to the show. Jon said casually, "I kinda wish we were going to that concert tonight. I have never seen U2 in concert and I would really like to." I have been to VERY few concerts in my life. But my first and favorite concert experience was U2 when I was a senior in high school. It was a fantastic show with great music.
"Let's do it!" I told Jonathan. I am not much of a concert goer but I love U2's music and I knew Jon would love to see them. I got on my cell phone and called a sitter. I called our friends and found out when the concert started. We ate dinner at BJ's and then picked the sitter up on the way home. We put Noble to bed and headed off on our adventure.
We decided to drive up as close to the stadium as we could to see if there was anybody selling tickets. We found a guy who sole us tickets for 1/5 the face value price (because the concert had officially started almost 2 hours previously). Then we found a parking place a stone's throw from the stadium. We got to our seats about 2 minutes before U2 came on stage.
It was such a fun night for Jon and I. It felt like a REAL date. I don't know why but it isn't every date that I feel like we are on a "date" and not just going out. Does that make any sense? Maybe it was because this was so "young" and spontaneous and out of character for us? I am not sure but it was lots of fun to be with my honey and listen to some great classic tunes.
I think we will have to try being "spontaneous" and out of the box again soon! Have any of you gone on any "fresh" and fun dates with your honey lately? Any one got some good ideas to share?

My husband and I also went to see the U2 concert, but it was not spontaneous. My husband has been planning this outing in detail since early this year.
But that's cool! I'm glad you had a fun time. We loved the concert.
How fun for you to be spontaneous! It's been over a year since we went on a date! With 4 kids it's not so easy...
Heck, I would just take tips on how to SNAG a honey in the first place. ;)
Hi Stephanie! I read your blog ever so often, but never have a chance to say hello. Thanks for your amazing posts. This one was great! I am 7 1/2 months pregnant right now (another girl) and am feeling anything but romantic and spontaneous! Reading your post made me realize that I NEED a spontaneous date with my hubby. Thanks for the inspiration! Hope all is well! Noble is so adorable!
hey - where are the cell phone pics??
That's awesome! Glad you two enjoyed yourselves.
This past Thursday our friend called and asked if we wanted to go to Reno. On such short notice, I didn't think it would be possible for us. We needed a sitter, husband needed to get Friday off, and I needed to do laundry so we could pack something, etc. Well all our ducks got lined up in a row and we were off for a nice mini vacay without kids! We left Friday morning and came back yesterday evening. Such a nice unexpected break! We had a great time too!
I really do understand what you mean about the "feeling" of a real date. There are times when I go through the motions.....get the babysitter, go out to dinner and a movie, then go home and check "weekly date" off my to do list. And those are important, because quantity time has it's important place in a marriage. But then there are the "quality" dates- times when I spend that extra minute on my make-up, he changes his shirt into something a little nice than the t-shirt he wore to clean the yard and we do something just a little out of the ordinary to make it feel like we are "courting" again. And it feels great. I love the feeling of remembering why I fell in love with this great guy in the first place. Some of the things we have done: local sports teams, high school theatre productions, boat shows, indoor rock climbing, horse back riding, picnics by the lake, food festivals...we look for things in the weekend section of the paper. I'm so glad you got to go on a great date and I'm jealous- I was ready to deliver any day when U2 came through town and I just didn't have the energy to go!
thus is a great story! Glad you had fun, but WOW am I jealous. U2 is by far my favorite group and the best concert I have ever been to!
I'm SO JEALOUS... I want to see U2 in concert so badly... and I never have enough money when they come around... and they never go to SLC anymore. I'm glad you had fun!
What fun, I haven't done anything that spontaneous in a long time. A friend of mine went and saw U2 when they were in Phoenix and posted the pictures on Facebook and I have to say it was one of the coolest stage setups I've seen.
Glad you guys got to have such a great time.
so many of our friends went to the u2 concert. I'm not one for concerts but I heard it was FAB! So glad you got to have a nice time with the hubs.
Lucky
spontaneity is key! i woke up a couple weeks ago and told my husband "i wish we were going to Wicked", found some tickets on Craigs list that day and went. I too felt like it was a real date- maybe it was the $$$ spent??? anyway, way worth it!
glad you had fun.
as for the sorrow, I am so sorry. i think you deal with this all so honestly, there is little i know to say, i just will pray that you have more peace and love.
